Why Cook with CBD or Delta-8 THC?

As we all know, cooking and eating great food is good for the soul. Combine that CBD or Delta-8 THC, and you have something good for your soul and your body.

After all, CBD and Delta-8 THC can support a wide range of mental and physical ailments. Not just that, but having CBD or Delta-8 THC infused foods is an enjoyable experience.

How to Cook With CBD and Delta-8 THC

There’s a good chance that you already have a CBD tincture. If you do, then that’s all you need to start cooking with CBD.

With Delta-8 THC, you can use a tincture or Delta-8 THC softgels. Softgels are a great option because they’re already dosed out.

Find Your Dose

Before you start adding CBD or Delta-8 THC into foods, it’s best to know what your dose is. Your dose is the usual amount of CBD or Delta-8 THC that you use to feel its effects.

However, when cooking, you might need to start scaling up. For example, if you’re making a batch of brownies, you’re probably not making just one.

That means that you’ll need to add enough CBD or Delta-8 THC to have the right dose throughout the entire batch. The best way to do that is through experimentation.

You can also consider how many servings your recipe is and try to add CBD or Delta-8 THC based on that.

Start Adding Drops

All you need to do to make CBD or Delta-8 THC infused foods is to add drops of CBD tincture or Delta-8 THC tincture to your foods. However, some foods are better for infusion than others.

Here are the best foods to use for CBD or Delta-8 THC infusing:

  • Smoothies
  • Coffee
  • Soups
  • Whipped cream or icing
  • Sauces
  • Baked Goods (cakes, brownies, cookies, rice krispies)

With smoothies, coffees, or soups, it’s easy to dose out your cannabinoid of choice. Just take your usual dose and add the drops in—voila!

You may have noticed that not all types of foods are on this list. However, you can add CBD or Delta-8 THC to any dish, but there are a few tips and tricks you need to be aware of.

Tips and Tricks When Cooking With CBD

Don’t Heat CBD or Delta-8 THC Too Much

If you’re cooking at too high of a heat, you might be losing your CBD or Delta-8 THC to evaporation. Not only that, but you might also be losing beneficial flavonoids, terpenes, and other minor cannabinoids.

The boiling point of CBD is about 365˚F (180˚C), so anything hotter than that and you run the risk of boiling off the CBD. However, CBD can be cooked or baked past this point while retaining most of the benefits.

That’s especially true of baking because the internal temperature of baked goods is usually less than the baking temperature. Just be aware if you’re simmering something at too high of a temperature.

It’s a similar story with Delta-8 THC because its boiling point is around 352˚F (178˚C). Once again, just be sure not to overheat your cannabinoids.

Mix CBD and Delta-8 THC With Other Oils

It turns out that the most efficient way to take CBD or Delta-8 THC is through food. That’s because cannabinoids are fat-soluble.

That means that cannabinoids don’t dissolve in water but dissolve in fats. For example, fats you have in your kitchen are olive oil, sesame oil, or sunflower oil.

So to get the most out of cooking with CBD or Delta-8 THC, you need to combine it with oil. Most CBD tinctures or Delta-8 THC products already have some small amounts of oil in them to help your body absorb them.

Combining CBD or Delta-8 THC tincture with a fat like olive oil will make it easier for your body to process. So if your recipe calls for some oil, add the CBD or Delta-8 THC tincture to that.

Infuse CBD and Delta-8 THC When You Can

Perhaps the most important thing when cooking with CBD or Delta-8 THC is to infuse them when possible. As we mentioned earlier, liquids like smoothies are great for adding your preferred cannabinoid.

That’s because you can add the CBD or Delta-8 THC tincture without cooking, just add the tincture, and you’re good to go.

However, you can apply the same technique to cooked foods. For example, if you want to sauté some veggies or meat, you can add CBD or Delta-8 THC tincture afterward as a glaze.

Or, with a pasta sauce, you can make your sauce and then drop in your CBD or Delta-8 THC after the sauce is done cooking.

Remember, try to infuse your food with cannabinoids rather than cooking with them. It may be difficult or impossible to do so with some recipe, but it might be the best way to get the most out of your CBD or Delta-8 THC.
